Kerala Steamed Cylinder Shape Rice Cake Puttu and Payaru

Ingredients:

Rice flour – 2 cups

Grated Coconut – ¾ to 1 cup or as required

Warm water – ½ – ¾ cup

Salt as required

Preparation

First, take a bowl add the rice flour and salt according to taste and then sprinkle the water a little bit and mix the powder using and without having lumps of rice. Set it aside for 10-15 minutes.

For preparation take the puttu kutti (Vessel for preparing steam cooked rice) add water to the bottom vessel. Then take the cylindrical mould, make sure that the bottom part is there then layer it, first add grated coconut and then rice powder repeat it until the cylinder is filled. Place puttu mould (cylindrical mould) over the bottom vessel and boil the water for 10 minutes. After that push, the steam-cooked rice in a place and have it with cherupayar curry.

Cheru payar(Green gram) curry

Green gram – 100g

Onion( sliced ) – 1 Number

Garlic – 2-3 No

Ginger ( Sliced ) – 1/4 teaspoon

Green chili – 1-2 Numbers

For Paste

Coconut( Grated ) – 1 Cup

Ginger – 1/4 teaspoon

Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon

Water-Accordingly

Seasoning

Oil – 1 tablespoon

Mustard seed – 1/4 teaspoon

Red chili – 2-3 Numbers

Curry leaves – 5-6 Numbers

Method:

Before getting into the cooking process, soak the green gram for 4-5 hours. After the soaking process takes a pressure cooker and add the green gram, sliced onion, garlic, green chilly, and ginger, and pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles.

Meanwhile, take a mixer grinder and add the ingredients for coconut paste and grind it smoothly.

Once the grinding is over open the lid of the cooker and pour the paste into the cooker and boil it for 5-8 minutes, Once the boiling is over, take a pan and heat it, and add oil, once the oil is hot add the mustards, when the mustard starts to pop add red chilly, curry leaves and stir it for 30 sec the pour the seasoning over the curry.

Tasty cherupayar(green gram)curry is ready. you can have it with puttu.
